There are literally millions of people who play the game of bingo on a regular basis either in a traditional bingo house or on the internet. Although many people might think that there is only one way to play the game, this is not true. There are, in fact, many different variations of the game that individuals play online, and in a traditional live bingo setting. New players might be a little perplexed when trying out new games. Keep reading for more information on the different games of bingo available.

Regular Bingo

When people think of the game of bingo, they often think of a numbered card with the word BINGO lined up at the top of it. The announcer calls out numbers, and players mark their numbers with their colored markers. When a player has gotten five numbers in a row, whether vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, he or she hollers out the word “bingo,” and he or she is the winner of the game.

Cover All

Cover all is another variation of the game. It is a rather simple game to play and not much to it at all. Basically, a player just has to have each and every number on his or her card covered by a marker. As the announcer calls out the numbers, the players cover their numbers, and the first player who has his or her entire card filled wins the game. This game typically takes a long time to play because of the sheer amount of numbers the announcer has to announce loudly. The odds of winning are pretty much the same as regular bingo. There is one rule that is worth noting; however, the jackpot is usually reduced after the 41st number is called.

Cross

So this game is also relatively simple to grasp and understand. Bingo players must form a cross on their bingo cards. This means that all the numbers in the “N” column need to be covered. Than the numbers in O3, G3, Free Space, and B3 all need to be covered. You will notice that the markers form a very simple cross on the bingo card.

Diamond

As the name would suggest, in this game the object is to form a diamond on your game card. This game actually has two variations of its own. The shortest version is simply covering four numbers on your bingo card. Those numbers are O3, N5, N1, and B3. The longer version, although still a fairly short game, you would cover O3, G4, G2, N5, N1, I4, I2, and B3. Because there are not many numbers called out during this game, a lot of players use the strategy of having multiple cards to improve upon their odds of winning the game.

Four Corners

This game might just be the fastest playing of all the bingo games. In this game, you only have to cover the four corners of the bingo card. The numbers would be O5, O1, B5, and B1. Again, to improve the odds of winning, a player might do well to have multiple bingo cards.

There are many other variations of the game offered by gaming sites online or in live situations. If playing online a player will most likely, have a choice as to which bingo game they play, however, with live bingo this might not be the case, as generally the host of the bingo games will decide which game or games are being offered during a given event.

Gamble Aware (www.gambleaware.co.uk) is managed by the Responsibility in Gambling Trust, an independent charity which funds treatment, research and education about responsible gambling. The website has been developed by a Task Force made up of representatives from the Gambling Commission, DCMS, academia and industry.
